Today, I participated in Erin Vincent's "Newsletter" activity as part of the Abbotsleigh Literary Festival. Basically, we just blogged something related to the literary festival. Here is what I wrote:
To Write or Not to Write?
Writing short stories seems like the perfect way to introduce yourself to writing narratives ... That is, until, you find yourself absolutely devoid of any ideas for a narrative!! I have always wondered just where writers get their creative ideas from? And it's not just storybook writers, but also film scriptwriters. The American TV show "Heroes" is one of my favourite shows - I love the idea of having supernatural powers for myself or that others around me or in the world have the supernatural powers and we have beings around us who are evolving as we speak (I particularly love the idea of being able to regenerate). But it's so creative that I have always wondered where the scriptwriter keeps track of his work and gets his ideas from. Margo Lanagan said that she just writes ideas that come to mind, whenever and wherever they come. But what happens when NOTHING comes to mind? Is it still possible to write a beautiful and creative piece of work? Which brings me to this: are writers born or do they "train" themselves to have such wonderful ideas? I know that I am certainly not a creative person, whether it is in writing or in art. And, thus, I have never been particularly outstanding at writing narratives. When I was little, I had to write short stories at school, but they all seemed to be rather dull and unexciting and always poor attempts at fantasy writing - a little "quest" to find gems to save the castle and the princess, an unexpected beast found to have been lurking in the castle and to have been eating the Christmas cake, etc. etc. Don't you find these rather dull short stories? I know I certainly did.
So ... the Literary Festival ... I hope that maybe I'll be inspired by something or someone in the Literary Festival that I might want to use for a short story, a poem, a play or some other piece of work. But, just one more thing ... I find that my best ideas for writing blogs usually come from within - they don't really come from one single thing that happened or one particular person, but from feelings and ideas that have been built up inside and provokes strong emotions inside me - now THAT'S where I get my best blogs from.
Here you are. Tell me what you think of it.

About Me
- Natalie
- I am a bright character, who is usually very cheery, funny in sarcastic ways and funny when I don't mean to be, and I would like to stand out but I am a shy person. Sometimes, I want to really do something but I don't end up doing it, or I only do the job (looking) half-heartedly, because I am too scared to let my real self go. Something that I would like to do later on would be to get rid of my shyness and express myself in my true ways. I want to be a better person - be nicer to people, but also be firm when necessary. I want to stop getting onto people's nerves for minor matters. When I grow up, I want to meet some famous people (mostly celebrities) whom I admire and love for what they do and for their down-to-earth personalities.
